A Weekend Escape at Little River Cabins in Nashoba, Oklahoma

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that let you slow down, breathe deep, and enjoy life’s quiet moments. That is precisely what we found at Little River Cabins in Nashoba, Oklahoma, a hidden gem along the banks of the Little River surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Kiamichi Mountains in the Ouachita range.

Our little crew—me, Ross, and Tayler—escaped here for a quick getaway in mid-September, staying from Sunday night through Tuesday morning. It was just the right amount of time to sink into cabin life, spend a whole day fly fishing, and reset in the quiet of southeast Oklahoma.

The Grandview Cabin: Comfort and Space by the River

We stayed in the Grandview Cabin, and it was incredible. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a hot tub, fire pit, and plenty of outdoor seating, it felt like a true retreat. A short 25-yard walk took us straight to the river, and the view of the mountains from the porch made every moment outside feel special.

Inside, the cabin is both spacious and cozy. My favorite spot was the giant blue couch. After dinner, I sank into it and felt the whole weekend wash over me. It is clear that the owners have put so much thought into making these cabins both comfortable and welcoming. They are perfect for families, couples, or groups of friends since there are multiple cabin options nearby.

Fly Fishing on the Little River

The highlight of our trip was definitely the time on the river. We spent an entire day fly fishing from the canoe and kayaks that are available right on the property. There was no need for hauling gear or complicated planning. We just grabbed what was there and went, which made the day feel easy and carefree.

The fishing was excellent. We caught smallmouth bass, Kentucky bass, and bluegill. I even almost landed a gar. Being able to stay right on the water meant we could fish as long as we wanted and then head straight back to the cabin when we were ready for a break.

Campfires, Coffee, and Cabin Life

Evenings at Little River Cabins are pure magic. Before dinner, we gathered around the fire pit, laughing, swapping stories, and watching the river roll by with the mountains in the background. The dogs loved it too. Aspen had a blast, and the two sweet pups that live on the property kept us entertained playing fetch.

Mornings were just as special. There is something about sipping coffee on the porch with the mist still hanging over the river and the sound of nature all around. It is peaceful in a way that makes you want to freeze time.

Cooking at the cabin was half the fun. On Monday morning, we fired up the Blackstone outside for crispy bacon, baked biscuits in the cabin kitchen, and added fresh berries on the side. It was simple, hearty, and perfect.

Lunch was easy, just sandwiches with mozzarella, lunch meat, and pork rinds after a long stretch on the river. Dinner that night turned into a feast of barbecue pork, brats, mac and cheese, and rolls. Between the grill, the full kitchen, and the dining table with mountain views, every meal felt like a memory in the making.

A Perfect Balance of Relaxation and Adventure

Our trip leaned more toward relaxation, but adventure was always right outside the door. We did not have to leave for much, although we did make a quick 30-minute drive to Clayton, Oklahoma one evening for a beer run. The drive itself was pretty, with rolling hills and wooded backroads.

The best part of Little River Cabins is that you really do not need to go anywhere. Everything you could want for a peaceful escape is right there: the river, the views, the cabins, and the quiet.
